Devi is a collection of paintings based on stills from films. The women shown on canvas are from diverse cultural, social and historical backgrounds. Their juxtaposition raises the questions of how these women are connected. We are caught in the crossfire of their looks. They impel us to try and understand. We endeavour to read the lines which experience has curved, sometimes literally, into their faces. Each picture encourages the onlooker to imagine their stories.
The central piece of the collection is a diptych of children looking into the adult world which they cannot understand and yet are doomed to replicate in the future.
